Wilson: My Goal Against Arsenal Should Have Stood, If It Was a Foul, Trossard Committed It First

West Ham United forward Callum Wilson has expressed his frustration over his disallowed equalizer against Arsenal, insisting the goal should have counted and questioning the consistency of the officiating.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Wilson reflected on the controversial moment during the match. “It’s obviously frustrating,” he said. “But for me, if that’s a foul, then you have to look at what happened before. In the 5 or 10 seconds leading up to it, there were other fouls. If you’re going to call one, you have to call all of them. Honestly, I think they should have just let the game play out and see what happened.”

The striker argued that similar incidents occur regularly in the penalty area. “We see plenty of teams blocking the goalkeeper in the box during set pieces. We study Arsenal’s tactics too – they do it all the time. It’s not just them, everyone does it.”

Wilson then broke down the specific sequence of events involving teammate Pablo and Arsenal’s Leandro Trossard. “If you look at Pablo putting his hand on the goalkeeper in isolation, yes, it’s a foul. But Trossard wasn’t even facing the ball. He was pushing Pablo, and Gabriel was pulling his shirt. Pablo was just trying to stay on his feet. He put out an arm to steady himself – unfortunately, it ended up on the goalkeeper’s arm. If that same action prevented an opponent from jumping to head the ball, it wouldn’t have been called a foul.”

“So, should he have kept his arms up the whole time? Probably not. But if that’s a foul, then Trossard’s earlier contact was also a foul. He was moving around Pablo and wasn’t even looking at the ball.”
