Barça targets historic season: 100 points and 100 goals

With just three matches left in the season, Barcelona is aiming for the ultimate milestone: reaching 100 points and scoring 100 goals. The Catalan side, already crowned LaLiga champions after a spectacular eight-month campaign, has set its sights on reaching a perfect century.

Hansi Flick’s team is chasing history. Only two teams have ever hit the 100-point mark in LaLiga: José Mourinho’s Real Madrid in 2011-12 (with 100 points) and the Barcelona side of Tito Vilanova in 2012-13 (also 100 points). Pep Guardiola’s 2010 Barcelona came agonizingly close with 99. Now, Flick’s Barça wants to join that exclusive club.

“Our goal is to get 100 points, and to do that we have to win each of these three games,” Flick said on Tuesday ahead of their match against Alavés. “We’ve celebrated a lot, but it’s also possible to keep playing well.”

But points aren’t the only target. Barcelona has already scored 91 goals in LaLiga this season, needing nine more in three games against Alavés, Real Betis, and Valencia to reach 100. While Mourinho’s Madrid holds the record with 125, Flick would surpass his own previous best of 102 goals from last season.

Defensively, the team is also motivated to help goalkeeper Joan García secure the Zamora Trophy. After returning from injury, the keeper has played enough games (28) to qualify for the award. Currently, he boasts a goals-against average of 0.69 (20 goals in 29 games), comfortably ahead of Thibaut Courtois (0.90). García has kept 15 clean sheets in 29 appearances. Only a disaster would prevent him from winning his first Zamora Trophy.

Flick confirmed that Diego Kochen would not start, but did not rule out playing Wojciech Szczesny as the second choice behind García. The final three matches will determine whether Barça’s historic season ends with a perfect 100 in both points and goals.
